Healthy Tips Video: The Power of Preventive Exercise

Video Transcript

What if just a few minutes a week could really change the course of your future? Would you take advantage of that? I'm Heather Durall. I'm a fitness coach and personal trainer here at the Healthpark, and I'm here to give today's tip on prevention.

So when we think about prevention, we really want to think about what do we want our future self to be like or to be able to do. Exercise really is medicine. It can prevent heart disease, diabetes, excess weight gain, injuries. It can protect independent living and prevent falls.

Really small habits can build over the course of time. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be consistent. So if we think about starting small, even just five minutes of a workout. I tell a lot of my clients, even if they can just come into the Healthpark, get on the bike, and ride for ten minutes and go home. They're starting to make a habit and be successful at their goals.

So when we think about exercise, we think about strength training. It's fortifying our bones and our joints. We think about cardiovascular training as supporting our heart, lungs, and cardiovascular system. Mobility training allows us to have free, fun, healthy movements. So as we start to practice these things in small ways, that effect will compound over time, and our body changes and adapts to those things.

So if you're waiting for a sign to start on that goal that you've been wanting to achieve, I'm here to tell you today, just a small step can have a really big outcome on your future self, and your future self will thank you. So if you have any questions or need any help with any of those goals this year, feel free to contact us here at the Healthpark.
